Computers have become very essential part of our lives. We just can’t do anything without computers. Our school, colleges, offices and factories require them to run successfully. Now you just can’t imagine any place without a computer, it has become a way of our day to day life. Computers are hardware devices however they are run by software which reside in side it.  For us computer means a screen, CPU, mouse and a device that helps managing and doing this.

In fact computer is more than this; they are various types and are run by various softwares. There are personal computers, desk top computers, main frames and laptop. These are run by a program called operating system. There are various types of operating system available in market famously Linux operating system, windows operating system, MAC operating system and there are many other operating system. An operating system actually initiates and does everything on computer system and that is why it is one of the most important programs in computer.

Linux operating system is highly regarded operating system; it is also extensively used operating system across the globe. Linux operating system is quite similar to Unix operating system, it is an open source operating system, and it is developed by community of individual who are interested in propagating open source technology.

The best thing about open source operating system such as Linux operating system is that it is free for all. It means you don’t have to buy it unlike other propriety softwares. The source of this operating system is open to all i.e. any developer can use Linux operating system’s source code and use it, modify it and let other people know its modification. Since Linux operating system is open to all thus it is gaining huge popularity. Not only individual developers but software firms , schools, colleges are using it and promoting it big time.
